Laptop Accessories
College Laptop
There are a few college laptop accessories that are essential to maintenance and style. A few essentials are:
- Laptop Case
- USB Flash Drive
- Ethernet Cable
One of the things you are going to want to do is keep your laptop safe with this laptop accessory. There are a few different ways to go about protecting your new laptop. You can store your laptop in a specially-made backpack with extra padding (laptop bag). However, this means whenever you want to protect your laptop on the go, you're going to need to lug around your backpack. If you would like to go with a smaller (and cheaper) solution, go with a simple foam laptop zip-case. They come in tons of stylish colors, and you can usually find one that will fit your laptop and keep it snug and protected. You can also go with a hard snap-on case for your computer, but this won't provide as much protection if you end up dropping your computer (believe me, it happens). Plus, it covers up your laptop's external style, usually with some sort of ugly solid color. Turning your shiny new white Macbook red is not the best move in terms of style!
USB Flash DriveA flash drive (aka thumb drive) is definitely a necessity. No matter what your major is, you will have at least one project, paper, or assignment that you'll want to save on your drive. Even if your school has great server-based storage or provides you with a huge amount of space on your email account, it's always best to have your important files safely on your flash drive. You can buy a small one for $5, or a really large one for up to $30 or more.
Ethernet CableThis may or may not be necessary depending on the type of connection you have in your dorm room or classrooms. Generally, older buildings don't have a wireless connection, but most academic buildings do. Try to search on your institution's web page to see what they offer in terms of Internet connection. If both a wired and wireless connection are available in your dorm, you should probably opt for the wired connection as much as possible. Colleges like to save money by buying cheap routers, which turns into slow service and low download rates. You'll avoid this annoyance by connecting through your Ethernet connection. This is especially important if you are anticipating uploading or downloading large files (video, audio, etc). Use your major to anticipate your needs
