Art Laptops
College Laptop
If you're planning on being an art major at your institution, you should be sure ot prepare yourself with the appropriate technology. It is very important when purchasing a laptop for college to consider your major and what your needs will be. If you are a graphic design, communications, web design, or fine arts major, you should be looking at art laptops based on your specific requirements. Art majors generally work in the Adobe Creative Suite. Some programs include:
- Photoshop
- InDesign
- Illustrator
- Dreamweaver
- Flash
These programs require a lot of workspace, which means a large screen size is required. However, what will really determine your workspace is your resolution. Resolution quality varies by computer, graphics card, and operating system; generally, what you should be looking for is around 1280 x 1024 and up. This means 1600 x 1200 or 1920 x 1440 would be excellent. You also want to think a lot about your operating system. It is a generalized fact that the majority of the Art industry now uses Macs in the workplace, so there is a good chance that your school's Art department will as well (check with them to be sure). In that case, you should check out the suite of Mac Laptops and decide which is appropriate for your price point. Make sure to keep an eye on the quality of the graphics card, processor, and RAM. You should make sure that you have a dedicated graphics card, and at least 4GB of RAM; the most current version of Adobe's Suite (Creative Suite 5) recommends these components.
